Delhi Approves Rs 805.99 Crore Medical College Project in Dwarka

By Team GoodTendersThe Government of Delhi has approved the construction of a new medical college and hostel complex within the campus of Indira Gandhi Hospital, marking a major investment in the capital’s healthcare and medical education infrastructure.
Led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the project carries an estimated cost of Rs 805.99 crore and is targeted for completion by 2028.
The new institution will be developed in phases and will comply with the standards set by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Once fully operational, the college is expected to offer 250 MBBS seats annually, beginning with an initial intake of 150 students.
Project Scope and Infrastructure
The development will include:
- A fully equipped medical college academic block
- Separate hostels for male and female students
- Faculty housing and residential facilities
- Basement parking and utility infrastructure
- Advanced laboratories and modern classrooms
According to officials, approximately 1,17,246 square metres will be developed during the first phase, including nearly 34,000 square metres allocated for parking and essential infrastructure.
The construction will be executed by the Public Works Department under the supervision of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Sustainable and Accessible Design
The project will incorporate several modern and sustainable construction features, including:
- Earthquake-resistant structures
- Solar power systems
- Rainwater harvesting
- Water recycling infrastructure
- Natural lighting and ventilation systems
The campus will also be designed for full accessibility, featuring ramps, lifts, Braille signage, and wheelchair-friendly pathways.
Additional safety measures will include CCTV surveillance, fire alarms, and integrated fire safety systems.
Government Focus on Healthcare Expansion
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the initiative as a long-term investment aimed at strengthening Delhi’s healthcare ecosystem and increasing the number of trained medical professionals in the region.
The proposal has already received approval from the Expenditure Finance Committee chaired by the Chief Minister, enabling the project to move into implementation stages.
Officials have been directed to maintain strict quality control and ensure adherence to project timelines, with the government warning against unnecessary delays or cost escalations.
