Dubai to Deploy 735 Electric Buses in Major Public Transport Expansion
Last Modified: 5/5/2026
By Team GoodTendersDubai is set to roll out 735 electric buses in 2026, marking one of the largest clean public transport expansions in the region. The initiative, led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is part of the emirate’s long-term strategy to transition toward a zero-emission mobility system and support national climate goals.
The new fleet will be introduced progressively and significantly increase the current electric bus network, which currently operates around 40 units. This expansion aligns with broader sustainability initiatives, including the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aimed at enhancing environmental performance and reducing carbon emissions across urban transport systems.
Infrastructure and Operational Readiness
To support the deployment, Dubai has already completed charging infrastructure across five key operational depots, including Al Quoz, Al Ruwayyah, Lehbab, Business Bay, and Jebel Ali. These facilities are equipped with high-capacity fast chargers, ensuring efficient operations and scalability as the electric fleet grows.
The rollout also reflects ongoing procurement and investment in clean mobility solutions, creating opportunities across vehicle supply, charging infrastructure, and maintenance services. With strong performance results and high user satisfaction levels, Dubai’s electric bus programme is expected to accelerate further adoption of sustainable transport technologies in the region.
