Last Modified: 7/8/2026
By Team GoodTendersIndia and Indonesia have strengthened their defence partnership with the signing of a US$200 million agreement for the supply of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile systems, marking another significant milestone in India's growing defence export programme.
The agreement forms part of a broader package of defence cooperation initiatives between the two countries, covering missile systems, defence technology collaboration, and maritime security.
BrahMos Export Programme Expands
Under the agreement, India will supply two batteries of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system to Indonesia.
A typical BrahMos battery includes multiple mobile launchers, ready-to-fire missiles, command and control equipment, and associated support vehicles, although the final configuration may vary depending on operational requirements.
The latest agreement further strengthens India's position as an exporter of advanced defence systems. Indonesia joins the growing list of countries procuring the BrahMos missile system, following earlier export agreements with the Philippines and Vietnam.
Strengthening Regional Defence Cooperation
The BrahMos agreement was signed alongside several other defence cooperation initiatives covering missile technologies, defence industrial collaboration, technology transfer, and maritime security.
The agreement reflects continued efforts by both countries to deepen strategic cooperation while enhancing regional defence capabilities across the Indo-Pacific.
India has continued to expand its defence export portfolio as part of its broader objective of strengthening domestic defence manufacturing and increasing international defence partnerships.
Supporting India's Defence Manufacturing Ecosystem
The BrahMos missile is jointly developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a collaboration between India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
The export programme highlights the growing international demand for advanced defence technologies developed through India's domestic defence industry while supporting the country's long-term defence manufacturing ambitions.
Future Opportunities Across the Defence Supply Chain
The agreement highlights continuing opportunities for companies involved in:
- Missile systems and launch platforms
- Defence electronics
- Command and control systems
- Military communication systems
- Mobile defence vehicles
- Radar and surveillance technologies
- Defence manufacturing
- Systems integration
- Logistics and lifecycle support
- Defence maintenance and training services
As countries continue investing in advanced defence capabilities and regional security, international procurement programmes such as the BrahMos export initiative are expected to create further opportunities across the global defence and aerospace supply chain.
