Slovenia Launches €10 Million Battery Storage Funding Programme for Energy Transition
Last Modified: 6/11/2026
By Team GoodTendersSlovenia is preparing to launch a €10 million public funding programme to support the deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid inverters, creating new opportunities across the renewable energy and energy storage sectors. The subsidy call is scheduled to open in August 2026, supporting projects aimed at strengthening grid flexibility and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The initiative, announced by Slovenia’s state-owned electricity market operator Borzen, will provide financial incentives for organizations investing in new battery storage infrastructure connected to the electricity grid.
Funding to Support Battery Storage and Grid Modernization
The competitive funding round will be open to private and public companies, municipalities, and public organizations, with applications accepted between August 4, 2026, and October 31, 2026 through an online submission process.
Under the programme, applicants can receive subsidies covering up to 45 percent of eligible project costs, capped at €225 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of storage capacity.
Funding will apply to new battery energy storage systems and hybrid inverters that are purchased, installed, paid for, and connected to the grid during the eligible project period. Projects must also hold a valid grid connection agreement issued after January 1, 2024.
Growing Opportunities in Battery Storage Infrastructure
The funding programme forms part of Slovenia’s wider effort to improve energy efficiency, strengthen grid resilience, and reduce fossil fuel dependence, with financing provided through the country’s Climate Fund.
The initiative is expected to support growing demand for:
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Hybrid inverter technologies
- Smart grid and energy management systems
- Renewable energy integration solutions
- Grid balancing and energy optimization technologies
Borzen stated that subsidies will only apply to new commercial energy storage systems, excluding used, pilot, or prototype technologies.
The programme highlights Slovenia’s increasing focus on energy transition, grid modernization, and clean energy infrastructure investment, signalling future opportunities for technology providers and energy solution companies across Europe.
